We got each other's backs- caring for someone at the end of life

Updated: Feb 2, 2022

We all need support in life, especially if we are caring for someone at the end of life.

I want to say a massive thank you to Matt and the Team at Bristol Chiropractors for “having my back”, literally, in the summer of last year when I was caring for a dear friend who was dying of cancer at home.

My back gave out caring for a friend who was at end of life

My back gave out, and I experienced Sciatica for the first time (and hopefully last) time in my life. I had never experienced pain like it.

Caring for someone at the end of life takes a toll on our bodies and emotions.

I felt cared for as soon as I stepped into the door

I was greeted with friendly staff and a wall-sized poster of beaming faces of children in Uganda, whom Matt and the team support.

On this first appointment, we started with a thorough examination with an x-ray to boot! It was discovered that I was leaning 10 kg extra on my right side to compensate for the pain in the left side.

They assured me that they could treat it and I went twice a week for 4 weeks and then once a week for the following few weeks and then down to every 3 weeks. I also received Acupressure and massage which was most welcome!

The impacts of caring for someone at the end of life

It wasn’t just physical pain I was in, I was experiencing huge emotional pain, exhaustion, and stress caring for my friend who was at home in the early days before we got more support. The couch in the treatment room was often a place I would let it all out before going back out into the world.

The results

Having these visits supported me hugely, and also my dear friend whom I was caring for at the end of life, as I was able to be there 100% for them. The feeling of relief when the pain disappeared and I could move (and sit!) freely without needing an icepack or painkillers was massive!

Thank you so much to Matt and the Team at Bristol Chiropractors for all your wonderful support, great cheer, and hugs, throughout this time!

You can visit Matt and the team at the Chiropractic Centre, www.thechirocentre.co.uk)

( if you book in before 16th January it’s only £20 for a complete examination and x-rays if necessary. A saving of up to £105!)
